Matt Nolan, Vice President & General Counsel of the Ancra Group, Director of Heico Global Compliance

Spring is a time of renewal, and while it happens at various points in the calendar depending on where you are in the world (Brazil is heading into winter as I write this), the spirit of spring is something that can be with us whenever we choose. I hope you use this opportunity to use the LDMC to find at least one new idea to leverage within your practice or department.

As you can see by perusing this newsletter, the LDMC remains busy. We are currently in the midst of a three-part, three-month Legal Quick Hit Data Breach Trilogy that is already bringing some great insights for our membership to quickly get up to speed in this critical area.  Our June and July meetings will focus on various aspects of this topic as well and I encourage you to attend.

In addition to the monthly meetings, our eGroup has been active, we’ve launched a new leadership-focused blog (highlighted below), and planning is well underway for the Annual Meeting which will take place this October in Washington, DC. Our goal is to enable membership participating in whatever way is convenient for you – if we can do that better, please let me know.  We will be launching our bi-annual member survey in the coming months, and I hope you will use that opportunity to let us know how we’re doing as well.

George Carlin famously observed the human perception that (a) each person driving slower than you on the highway is an idiot, while (b) each person driving faster than you must be a maniac.  We’re each caught seeing the world through our own, self-focused lens. Take some time this month to try to see a new perspective, learn about something you think you disagree with or meet someone you wouldn’t ordinarily meet – doing so will make you a better counselor for your business.

Sponsor Highlights
Seyfarth Shaw

Hello LDMC Members,

We are excited to sponsor the Data Breach Trilogy which began in May.

If you were unable to attend the May Legal Quick Hit, Don’t Have Much Ado About Nothing: How To Tell If You Are Having A Data Breach (or Not), you can retrieve the recording in the LDMC Archives

June:  There’s a Breach in Them Thar Hills - New Security Risks to your Data (and how to deal with them) to be presented by John Tomaszewski of Seyfarth Shaw LLP.

In the age of social media, internet of things, telecommuting, and “wearable” computers, threats to a company’s data come from an increasingly varied number of sources. “Always connected” workforces, highly distributed computing networks, and everything being Wi-Fi capable have created an environment where almost everything is a threat. Fortunately, there are ways to deal with such an environment - forewarned is forearmed. Join us in a discussion about the emerging threats to your data, where they come from, and how you can take steps to mitigate them in order to avoid painful security breaches.

July:  Count to Ten: Ten Things You Need To Do Once You Learn Of A Data Breach to be presented by Karla Grossenbacher of Seyfarth Shaw LLP and Laura J. Lazarczyk of Zurich North America.

Seyfarth attorneys are always keeping up on the latest legal, legislative and regulatory developments and quick to provide in-depth analysis as a resource for our clients and the news media.  Be sure to check out our events and publications for online content as well as webinars or meetings in your area.
