Message from the Chair

Every day we manage our organization’s information to minimize risk, advance business interest, and improve productivity. This month, we want you to think about how to leverage information to advance your career.

When was the last time you reviewed your resume? Is it up to date? Are there skills or substantive knowledge that you need to gain or strengthen? Have you taken a look at your network? Are you connected to the right people to help strengthen your knowledge about Information Governance?

In this newsletter, we provide articles about taking control of your online presence, controlling your digital footprint, a quiz to identify your dominant online networking style and how to set IG  goals within your organization.

Remember: “Knowledge is power. Information is liberating.” Kofi Annan, 7th Secretary-General of the United Nations.

Social Media For Corporate Counsel: More Valuable Than You Think
July 20, 2017 at 2:00 PM EDT/ 6:00 PM GMT

Speakers: Kevin O'Keefe, CEO of LexBlog, Inc., a managed WordPress platform for law

Social media for in-house counsel is a different game than it is for lawyers in private practice. But taking control of your online presence and understanding how to build a knowledge network on the internet is just as valuable.

Whether you operate within a highly structured/compartmentalized corporate environment, are fairly insulated within your legal team, or have a more public role, you can find ways to personally use social media for learning, networking and raising your profile as corporate counsel. Engaging online can help you stay abreast of important legal issues, and is an opportunity to get right in the middle of conversations that may affect how your company does business.

Kevin O'Keefe, CEO of LexBlog, Inc., a managed WordPress platform for law, will cover blogging, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn -- and share real-time examples of in-house counsel's effective use of these media.

Defensible Disposition: From "Never Gonna Give You Up" to "Let It Go"
August 17, 2017 at 2:00 PM EDT/ 6:00 PM GMT

Speakers:  Keith Angle, Group Head of Information Governance and Executive Director, Legal UBS AG and Lisa Lukaszewski, Counsel, Redgrave

Organizations should dispose of information that no longer needs to be retained for business or legal reasons. This simple tenet of information management seems to be the hardest to implement - saying goodbye to expired information is hard for many organizations. As a result, companies find themselves with increasing stores of legacy and orphaned paper, data, systems, and backup tapes. Often, not much is known about the contents or ownership of this information, which makes it hard for organizations to evaluate their legal obligations to retain the information. This program will provide approaches for finally, and defensibly, remediating legacy stores of information. The presenters will suggest processes for cataloguing legacy information, for determining what legacy information must be preserved and what legacy information can be destroyed, and for preventing the accumulation of unnecessary legacy information in the future.

WEBCAST: How Will Brexit Impact Litigation in the US, UK and EU?
September 14, 2017 at 12:00 PM EDT/ 4:00 PM GMT

Speakers: Vince Neicho, Vice President, Legal Services, Integreon

Presented by ACC's Litigation Committee and Sponsored by Integreon
Uncertainties abound following 2016's shocking referendum vote that has set the wheels in motion for the UK's exit from the European Union, a decision commonly known as Brexit. A key concern since then for many corporate counsel has been the implications for litigation in the US, UK, and EU as it affects companies operating in the UK or doing business with entities in the UK.

In this one-hour webinar, Integreon's Allen McNee will interview Vince Neicho. Vince is a widely regarded expert on UK disclosure law and litigation practices and he will share his personal insights and thoughts about what to expect and how best corporate counsel can prepare for Brexit.
