Updates from ACC Networks

Message from the Chair

Since the last newsletter much has changed, most importantly, GDPR has actually come into effect. For many it doesn’t mean much, but for those that are affected, as anticipated, the flood gates of litigation have already opened. On the very first day, Max Schrem filed the first class action matter against Google and Facebook seeking damages of $8.8b. Now if that isn’t enough to get executive team members attention, I don’t know what is.

This network will keep you apprised of new information that we are seeing on this front. However, keep in mind that information governance is the solid foundation for managing your data whether GDPR applies or not. We will continue to have great Legal Quick Hits and Webinars on the info gov topic in general while at the same time following and creating awareness of the events that are occurring around GDPR.

We have some great sessions coming up that are directly sponsored by the network and others that are being conducted by members and leaders that we will be sharing with you. So stay tuned for great content that will aid you as you continue to develop and update your information governance initiative.

I’d also like to report that over the past six months, the Info Gov committee had the highest number of attendees out of all networks for a single ACC webcast. That is a huge accomplishment and is largely due to the content and the caliber of speakers that we have been able to obtain. I thank everyone for all of their efforts in making our sessions successful.

Again, don’t forget the Information Governance eGroup that is set up on the ACC site. One of the most important aspects of ACC is that we are all here to support each other. If you have a question you’d like to run past other members, the eGroup is a great resource. For those veterans out there, please make sure that you are checking the eGroup and offering your valued wisdom to those that are looking for feedback. It’s how we continue to help the industry grow.

I hope that you are all able to join us on the next event.

Take care,

Complimentary White Paper: Reducing Your Offsite Paper Storage Risk and Cost
Despite spending billions on office automation technology to facilitate the adoption of digital documents, organizations still create and store large, albeit decreasing, amounts of paper. At a time when most companies expect to spend less on paper storage, they are often spending more. This White Paper discusses strategies for identifying and recovering overbillings, reducing overall physical records storage costs and reducing the volume of offsite records stored.
