Message From the Chair
Stephen Roth, Vice President & General Counsel

Hello everyone,

LDM has a new name!  For years, we’ve been known as the Law Department Management Committee. About a year ago, our friends at ACC central rightly sensed that the term “committee” might have some baggage. That word made it sound like by joining our group, you’d be besieged with requests for lots of heavy lifting. Not all of us have time for that. “Committee” didn’t communicate that membership can be at many levels, including only informational.

So the work began. Surveys were taken. Discussions ensued. Different alternatives were considered. And because the ACC now spans the globe, the perspectives of countries outside the US were considered.

After  all was said and done,  a consensus emerged. “Committee” got the  axe. We became the “Law Department Management Network.”

Our new moniker doesn’t change what we do, and it doesn’t change our unique value proposition.  But it does underscore some of our group’s unique capabilities and what the LDM Network offers to you.

We still bring you the best content and the most fun. (Did you check out this month’s psychic LinkedIn post for example?) We’re still the Network that every ACC member should  join since one of our primary missions is professional growth and leadership development, which are critical to our success.

But for us, “network” has two other meanings. First, we’re the only ACC Network that has a broadcast arm, our YouTube channel, which we launched earlier in the year. With over 10,000 views of our LinkedIn video posts and counting, you could say we’re the only Network with a network!

But there is a second and more important meaning of our new name. It highlights that our more than 6,000 members worldwide are part of your professional network. Accessing their collective experience and brainpower is as simple as posting a message on the ACC eGroups. When you do that, one of our members will almost always offer sound advice, no matter what the issue.

So, welcome to your Network/network!

Best wishes for your summer.

Sponsor Highlights
Seyfarth Shaw

Seyfarth Shaw is a full-service, international law firm with more than 850 lawyers in 15 offices. Seyfarth is an industry leader in  innovation and is the first law firm to use Lean Six Sigma to improve internal processes and service delivery, starting in 2005. Since that time, Seyfarth has been helping law departments identify the problems and projects that have the greatest potential for impact, tailoring the right tools, talent, and technology to solve real business problems - not just clear legal hurdles. Seyfarth’s secret to change that sticks is a dedicated team of business professionals from a number of disciplines across technology, process improvement,  and project management.  Seyfarth specializes in “applied innovation” --  an innovation that makes a difference to you and your business.

Our early investment in a multidisciplinary team has provided an innovation blueprint for the entire legal industry.  We have a team that specifically helps law departments maximize their efficiency and service delivery. Think about reaching out to  Lisa Damon or Jenny Lee and the Seyfarth Lean team if you have:

  • Members of your  in-house team who are not “working at the top of their licenses” and want to explore root cause and think through solutions
  • A legal process that seems wildly inefficient and needs to be re-thought and streamlined
  • A project in your legal department that could benefit from Lean Six Sigma approach
  • An internal team that you want to train on Lean and execute on projects that matter to your company

Reach out to Lisa & Jenny if you have questions. In the meantime, we hope that you will think of Seyfarth for your legal needs.
