Multijurisdictional Practice Update
Illinois Becomes 42nd State to Adopt MJP
On July 1, 2009, the Illinois Supreme Court adopted ABA Model Rules 5.5 and 8.5 governing the multijurisdictional practice of law (MJP) and facilitating the cross-border practices of lawyers admitted in one U.S. jurisdiction, but not in the state that’s adopting this practice authorization. International Law Office Global Counsel Awards 2009 Winners
Senior in-house counsel from around the world gathered in New York City on June 25, 2009 for the third annual International Law Office Global Counsel Awards, held in association with ACC. Attendance at this year's awards was the highest yet, as more than 250 senior in-house counsel from over 65 companies across the globe jetted in to celebrate their success with their external counsel. Presenting on behalf of ACC was Rosemary Nelson, president of the ACC's Greater New York Chapter and deputy general counsel, operations, of Colgate-Palmolive.
Among the winners were ACC members John Thorne (Verizon Communications), Matthew Biben (The Bank of New York Melton), Simon Cresswell (Goldman Sachs International) and Jukka-Pekka Joensuu (TDC Finland Oy). Nominate an Outstanding In-house Attorney Today
ACC is looking for nominees for the 2009 “Excellence in Corporate Practice” award. The annual award recognizes the career achievements of in-house attorneys who epitomize excellence through representation of their clients, contributions to the legal profession, and public service. It is one of the association’s highest honors. Nominations must be received no later than August 24, 2009 to be considered, and nominees must have achieved success in one or more areas involving service and contributions to the legal profession.
