ACC Focus on the Colorado Chapter - September 6, 2006 (Print All Articles)President's Message
A Message from your President The Quest for Full Potential We depend on well set goals to give us direction and an end-mark against which we can measure quality, progress and gains. Only through the pursuit of the right goals can we realize our full potential-as an organization, as in-house practitioners and as individuals. But all too often in life and business, the unstoppable horses of enthusiasm and momentum must be restrained in wait of information on their route and target destination. And so it was with the Colorado Chapter until you, our constituents, provided the essential information through your responses to the 2006 membership survey. Bottom line: you’ve told us clearly what you want and expect from ACC Colorado and in doing so you have moved the bar for our performance to a higher level. I’m very proud to report that your Colorado Chapter’s Board of Directors moved instantly on the survey results in efforts to meet your expectations. A special task force comprised of five of those Directors was appointed and in the weeks following the compilation the survey results, that task force worked tirelessly to develop a new annual sponsorship program to facilitate the delivery of the in-house focused CLE and networking programs you have requested. This new annual sponsorship program has since been approved by the Chapter’s Board of Directors, was showcased to dozens of prospective annual sponsors at a cocktail reception in early June and since that time, the highest of the four annual sponsorship levels, the Platinum level, has already been completely sold out with the Gold level soon to follow. The mutually beneficial relationships created are simple and straight forward — the sponsors will host and bear the cost of CLE and networking programs in exchange for the opportunity to demonstrate to you their core practice expertise of service/product lines. For its part, the Chapter will maintain an annual, online calendar for your information, assist sponsors with coordination of program offerings and preferred topic selections and locations and then give you e-mail reminders of new opportunities for CLE education, career development, training and networking as their offering dates approach — answering, we believe, the full spectrum of your stated wants and needs. But that’s not all we’ve been up to. A steering committee comprised of
On the Pro Bono practice front, we’ve also answered to your interest with training and opportunities to enable you to experience the personally rewarding feedback and appreciation that comes from those in need who benefit from your assistance — anybody feeling over-appreciated in their present in-house position? See the accompanying article in this edition of the Newsletter for more details on recent pro bono activities and upcoming pro bono opportunities — a great way to get acquainted with your in-house counterparts and other lawyers helping the community. ACC Committees function and succeed because their participants accent the fun of involvement. If you know you need to open up a bit more and would enjoy meeting other fun-loving lawyers in Colorado, give us a call. We have openings on many of our key committees, including Programs; Career Development; Membership; Diversity in the Practice and Pro Bono. Or for a shorter duration involvement, you can contribute by volunteering to assist one of our special project task forces. Get involved to find your full potential — you’ll be the better for it and you’ll share in the kudos rightly coming to those helping the Colorado Chapter realize its full potential toward improving the in-house practice and the job satisfaction of in-house practitioners in Colorado. Browse the Chapter's website for up-to-date information about upcoming programs. I hope to see you at one of those events. Sincerely, John Linton ACC Colorado President Workplace Diversity Reception
