June Brown Bag Program - Federal Enforcement Actions Against Gatekeepers - Recent Trends in DOJ and SEC Actions Against In-House Counsel

Title: BROWN BAG PROGRAM: Federal Enforcement Actions Against Gatekeepers - Recent Trends in DOJ and SEC Actions Against In-House Counsel
Date: June 14, 2007
Start Time: 12:00 AM PDT
End Time: 1:00 PM PDT
Description: In a recent speech, Chairman Cox reaffirmed the SEC's view that lawyers represent the front line in defending against corporate fraud and that enforcement actions against gatekeepers, including in-house and outside counsel, remains a key enforcement priority. Indeed, recent highly-publicized enforcement actions against in-house counsel at Apple, Google, Comverse, Gemstar, Monster Worldwide, and McAfee reflect only a small number of administrative and civil enforcement actions.

On June 14th, speakers Michele Wein Layne, Associate Regional Director for Enforcement from the Pacific Regional Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission and Koji F. Fukumura, Partner, Cooley Godward Kronish, LLP will discuss the SEC's enforcement priorities vis-a-vis gatekeepers and some of the cases that have defined the current landscape. Ms. Layne is the co-head of the Pacific Regional Office's enforcement program. Mr. Fukumura defends companies, officers and directors in connection with SEC investigations, administrative proceedings, and civil enforcement actions.
