In December 2008, the San Diego Business Journal reported that companies are "resorting to layoffs and forming partnerships to survive a punishing economy that is turning competitors into bedfellows."  In the current economic environment, strategic partnering and alternative approaches to business relationships are more important than ever, as companies navigate their way through the continuing credit crisis and capital market volatility.  As companies seek to replace traditional financing sources with strategic partnering alternatives, it is important for corporate counsel to understand the various structures, options and strategies available, as well as the common pitfalls to be avoided.  Nadia Sager and Howard Armstrong, both partners in the Investment and Strategic Ventures practice group of Latham & Watkins LLP, will address these issues and more in Part 1 of a two-part program on Joint Ventures and Strategic Partnerships.
